Awana Digital partners with earth defenders around the world to co-develop technology for social justice.
Right now in Tanzania, there is an urgent need for action, as more than 100,000 Maasai People are under threat of forced eviction due to tourism and land grabs by the Tanzanian Government.
We are supporting the Maasai People of Tanzania in their struggle to defend their rights and their territories. Please join us.
Your donation will:
- Support the Maasai of Tanzania to defend Indigenous land rights and protect the biodiverse forests and grasslands of their traditional territories.
- Fund the development and circulation of open-source technology to map and monitor environmental and human rights abuses.
- Strengthen community-led advocacy by our Indigenous partners, including the Maasai of Tanzania.
Due to the security situation in Tanzania and the targeted intimidation of Maasai Earth Defenders, we can not currently reveal the identity of the local community organization we are working with, so as not to jeopardize their safety or continuing work. However in the coming months, as they make the results of the mapping work public, we will be able to send updates with more details and information.
